Biography

Sister Mary Augustine Hatch, SSND, created two paintings which were exhibited in Fine Arts Festivals. Summer Garden, a gouache painted in 1967, was in the Festival of December 7 – 16, 1967. Her painting, "Etude," was also purchased after it was shown at that same festival.

Augustine was born in 1896 in Grand Junction, Colorado. She joined the Notre Dame Sisters in 1929 in Milwaukee. After receiving BFA and MAE degrees, she taught elementary and high school students from 1928-1942. Later in life, she taught at Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from 1942-1971. She was also a member of the Art Department at Notre Dame of the Lake (motherhouse) in Mequon, Wisconsin. She died in 1974 in Brookfield, Wisconsin.

A number of her paintings hang in the classrooms and offices of Mount Mary College in Milwaukee.
