Biography
Jeanne Anne (Svein) Aurelius was born in 1952. After graduating from Luther College with a degree in art and elementary education in 1974, Jeanne and her husband, David, founded Clay Bay Pottery in Ellison Bay, WI. The pottery and gallery celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2006. Jeanne attended the Pond Farm summer workshops founded by Marguerite Wildenhain between 1973 and 1980.
In addition to managing Clay Bay Pottery, Jeanne and her husband are artists-in-residence at schools across Wisconsin. They have led large-scale mural projects also for churches and community non-profits although most of their projects occur in elementary schools. Jeanne states: “It is very exciting for children to see their drawings transformed into clay and for their tiles to be combined to create an imaginative mural that sings with the energy and vitality unique to children.” A Mural Residency Process is outlined on their website.
The “Tree of Life” bowl donated by Jeanne to the Pond Farm Collection is glazed black with tan tree limbs showing reddish leaves and blue birds. The interior is glazed in blue.
