Biography

John Cabalka received his higher education from the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa where he earned his BFA in 1965. That same year, his mixed media painting, "Selma", was exhibited in the Fine Arts Festival of April 21-May 2, 1965.

In the course of his career, Cabalka became the owner and creative director of Cabalka Studio USA, a nationally recognized design firm in Kansas City. Originally from Los Angeles, Cabalka was senior art director at Warner Brothers Records and Keye/Donna/Pearlstein Advertising. He was group creative director at CMF&Z Advertising before he started his own firm. A list of clients in his own firm include the 1994 World Cup Organizing Committee, the Kansas City Museum, Suzuki Automotive, and Lee Rider jeans. Cabalka also has taught at such places as the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, Fullerton University in Fullerton, California and the Kansas City Art Institute. In 1972, the book Cooking in the Orchard by Megan Mallory was published which had a book jacket designed by Cabalka.
