Biography
Four etchings by David Fraiser Driesbach have been accessioned into the Fine Arts Collection. Three of the etchings were purchased after they were exhibited at Fine Arts Festivals. The Butterfly People was exhibited at the Festival held December 8 through 18, 1968. St. Luke Paints the Madonna was part of an earlier Festival which occurred April 17-25, 1959. The art exhibit which was a component of that Festival was located in the Tower Gallery of the College Gymnasium. The etching Veronica was exhibited at the Print/Watercolor/Drawing Show which was part of the Festival held December 7-17, 1966. Driesbach said it received a “best of show” award at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. It was pulled from three plates. The fourth art work, J.J.E.E. and C.C., was probably acquired after Driesbach’s exhibit at the College during September 1970. The etching was included on the price list for that one-man show. The title represents the names of the Driesbach children along with the name of their family pet.
Driesbach was born October 7,1922, in Wausau, Wisconsin. After serving in the Marine Corps in World War II, he studied at the University of Iowa. He received his MFA in 1951, studying with Mauricio Lasansky in the Department of Art. During his career, he has taught at a number of colleges and universities and been asked to be an artist in residence at many institutions. Driesbach retired from teaching in 1992 but continued working in his studio and conducting workshops.
Driesbach’s works have been in more than 500 exhibitions, both on the national and international level. He has had one-man shows, won prizes, and had his works acquired for the permanent collections in museums, art centers, and galleries.
