Biography

Neil Paul Frankenhauser was born in Chicago, Illinois. He received his BA degree from Bowling Green State University and his MA and MFA degrees from the University of Iowa. Frankenhauser has taught at or been professionally affiliated with a number of academic institutions including universities, community colleges, and art schools. He has exhibited in juried, regional and national exhibitions since 1961 and won awards in numerous competitions. He has been affiliated with galleries in several states.

The oil painting by Frankenhauser in the Fine Arts Collection, “Oldly Weds No. 1,” was purchased after the Fine Arts Festival of April 17-April 30, 1966. The artist said it was created while pursuing his graduate education. He noted it was provoked by newspaper photos of married couples on golden wedding anniversaries who struck him as “largely unhappy looking.” Frankenhauser also submitted entries into the Fine Arts Festivals exhibits of 1965 and 1967.
